Common Asphalt Questions

See some common questions and answers below, or call us at (804) 672-6701
  • When paving my driveway how do I insure a nice uniformed paved driveway with no seams.

The trick to paving with no seams is having all the asphalt on site when the job starts. When paving larger driveways we own 6 full size dump trucks and can bring over 100 tons at one time.

  • What should you look for in Asphalt Contractor?

You should look to make sure your Asphalt contractor is licensed and insured. Most "knock on the door contractors" are not licensed and insured and can cause major problems if accidents happen on your property!

  • Is sealcoat really going to help protect my driveway?

Yes, sealer coats the driveway and protects against oxidation from the sun, water penetration and accidental spills of Petrolium products. The other benefit is that a newly sealed driveway makes the driveway looks brand new.

  • Is asphalt less expensive than concrete?

Yes, but concrete is a good option in certain scenarios. With an on site visit we can determine what works best.

  • If I see sinkholes in my asphalt driveway, what should I do?

Most sinkholes are from underground water or stump hole areas where trees had been removed. They are not difficult to fix but no one knows if the hole if finished sinking. We can fix them but it is possible they could come back over time.

  • How thick do you pave the asphalt?

Three inches is the typical asphalt driveway depth. Driveways can be done in two layers and up to five inches thick in needed. If someone were to have a home business where they have larger vehicles on the driveway that may require more thickness than the typical driveway. We will evaluate the driveway with the customer and come up with the best option.

  • How often should I seal or treat my asphalt driveway?

Sealcoating your driveway should be done every 2-3 years.

  • How long should I wait until driving on my driveway?

We recommend waiting 24 hours after sealing the driveway and 48 hours after paving the driveway before you put any vehicles on it.
